Some of my favorite conversations with Z happen at bedtime. Tonight was no exception. While cuddled up in her princess sleeping bag on her bed with a mass of stuffed animals and dolls surrounding her, Z asked me this -
"Mommy, will I just keep growing and growing until one day I turn into a grown up?"
I replied, "Yep, that's pretty much the way it works."
Her response, in a very dejected voice, was this, "Oh no, mommy. I just want to be a kid for always."
I tried to assure her that she still has many, many days ahead of her to be a kid. Curious, I then asked her why she didn't want to grow up. Her response? When she is all grown up she won't be able to have all of her stuffed animals and babies sleep with her. When I told her that she could still sleep with all of those things when she is a grown up, she laughed at me and said, "Oh, mommy! You are too silly! I would never fit in my bed with all of my friends when I am grown-up and big!"
I guess you might be right, Zoe - and I sure wish you could be a "kid for always" too!
