How To Spend A Snow Day

For those of you who might be curious, we spent a good portion of our official "snow day" yesterday........

baking Christmas cookies!!!!

However, before we could begin the baking process, we had to bundle up and venture out to the store to get a few necessary cookie supplies. I know. I know. Why would you go out on a snow day, you ask? Why would you put your children through the torturous task of braving negative wind chills? Because we're tough, that's why! We live in MN for goodness sake :) Well, actually, we didn't go out until the afternoon - by which time the roads were all clear, the sun was out and all that was left of our blizzard warning were the nasty winds. We had valet service to good ole' Target and it proved to be a very unadventurous supply run. And just so you don't worry about our kiddos too much, we did make sure they were aptly bundled.Truth be told, the real bakers in the family were T and me. Little Z had to bypass the baking for an afternoon nap - but she had an important part later on in the process. Michael was too busy snow blowing our driveway (four times) as well as three of our neighbors' driveways, too.

We actually made two different types - chocolate star cookies and Rollo filled cookies (for a total of about 10 dozen) but I only snapped pictures of the first variety. T was a tremendous help and had great fun pouring all of the ingredients in the bowls and then rolling the peanut butter balls in sugar to prepare them for baking. He took his work very seriously.Or maybe not.
Once up from her nap, Z filled the role of taste tester. And from the looks of things - we passed the test with flying colors. All in all - it was a great way to spend a COOOOLD day! And our freezer is now stocked for the season :)
