By Leaps and Bounds
It's been quite a week for our newly 2-year-old T. Sunday evening saw the taking down of his crib/toddler bed and the ushering in of a true BIG BOY bed. After a few nights of listening to him get frustrated when he couldn't sprawl out the way he wanted, we decided it was time. Time to say a final farewell to the crib/toddler sleeping quarters and time to bring in the big guns. While his room was in transition, T had a grand time playing on the mattress pile up. We have not yet had time to go shopping for a frame for these mattresses but T does not seem to mind. He is enjoying his new sleeping space. Then, today, T had his 2-year well-check with Dr. Mary. The findings confirmed our suspicions. T is growing by leaps and bounds. After Nurse Jackie completed an initial weigh-in and measurement of height, Dr. Mary asked if we could do a recheck on the length. She said the measurement that the nurse had taken just did not seem feasible because it was such a huge jump from T's 18-month numbers. So, I hoisted T back up onto the exam table and that crinkly white paper, gently but firmly made sure his head was at the top of the growth chart while Dr. Mary AND Nurse Jackie stretched out his somewhat unwilling legs to get a second measurement. The results were the same as the first. Our little T (who we all know has never truly been little) is HUGE. He is now 38 1/4 inches tall which catapults him off of the growth charts for gentlemen his age. His weight is still in the 85th percentile at 31 pounds, 2 ounces, and his head (which started out in the 30th percentile at birth) is now in the 86th percentile. I guess that means he has some hefty brains to go along with his mighty brawn. Most importantly, Dr. Mary said he is healthy and right on track developmentally. She was impressed with his knowledge of colors, his recognition and naming of letters, and his ability to count. On a side note, T still is not a big fan of doctors but Dr. Mary did comment that it seems to get a little better with each visit. Not bad for a newly 2-year-old T. Not bad at all.
