An Official Cast Member

Today was the day and it was good. Aside from what we consider relatively few tears and a pretty rocky encounter with yet another XRay tech (this one was not as skilled as the first), T's appointment to be "casted" went well. The orthopedic who saw T was wonderful and her nurse who actually put on T's cast was phenomenal. We kept T pretty distracted while she wrapped his leg and she was kind enough to join in on the distractions, all the while still applying the cast. Impressive. When she was done, T looked down at his leg and said, "Whoa. Wow!" Thank you Dr. Lehnert and Nurse Krissy for making what could have been a very traumatic experience a rather pleasant one. And thank you to all of you who prayed for T today. The answer to your petitions on our behalf was evident. Thank you!

As it turns out, even though T's break is just above his ankle, Dr. Lehnert thought it necessary to cast him to mid-thigh. She said this is the only real way to slow him down and ensure that the bone gets a chance to heal. If his cast had only gone below his knee, she said he would have found a way to be up and running on it in a week which is a bit too soon. We trusted her expertise. She said that even with the full cast we will be amazed at how mobile T will learn to be. She said within a week he will have figured out a way to at least walk on it and this is OK. We are scheduled to go back in 3 weeks for more Xrays (oh, joy) and if everything looks good, then they will remove the cast.
T got a special visit this morning before his doctor's appointment. His Great Grandma L, aka G.G., stopped by with Auntie C and cousins E and N. They came bearing get-well gifts (fingerpaints, a bubble gun and a cowboy hat) as well as some pretty fun presents from T's Great Aunt Ruth and Great Uncle Bob. T now is the proud owner of a cool fireman's helmet (which he is wearing in one of the above pictures), as well as a super cool t-shirt from Auntie Ruth's most recent trip to Australia. How fun! Thanks to each and every one of you! And again, thank you to all of you for your prayers today. We appreciate it more than you will ever know!

Wow. What a tough kid. I'm sure it is just the first of many a broken bone.

Hey, Big T, please be sure your Mom & Dad go with you to the Doctor when it's time to remove the cast!! Your Dad claims he had to go alone to have stitches removed -I'm not sure his memory is correct on all the facts!!! We love you T and we are so proud of what a big boy you've been thru all of this. We are praying for you, Dad and Mom. Love you all G & G L.
